A literal translation of futomaki is “fat rolled sushi.” It is rice and fillings wrapped in dried roasted seaweed, and then sliced into smaller bite-sized pieces. Sushi rolls prepared “inside out” are called Hosomaki, they very popular outside of Japan, but rarely found in Japan.
Small rice balls with toppings such as fish and shellfish. There are countless varieties of nigiri sushi, some of the most common ones being tuna, shrimp, eel, squid, octopus and fried egg.
